Safe Child Policy

The Sibley Public Library staff works to create a safe environment for all.   It is therefore necessary for parents and caregivers to do their part to help insure the safety of our youngest patrons.

The Sibley Public Library Board of Trustees has in turn adopted this policy.

*Children age 9 and under must be accompanied by a parent,   caregiver or sibling of at least 13 years of age or older during their entire stay at the library except during Story Hour and children’s programs. The parent, caregiver or sibling must also be in direct supervision of the child while in the library.

*Children 10 and over may be left unattended at the discretion of a responsible adult.  If the adult feels it is unsafe for the child to leave the building without supervision, then the child should not be left unattended.

*Children must have emergency contact information.  Both children and adults should be aware of library hours, especially closing time.  If transportation is not available within 15 minutes of closing, the police will be asked to escort the child home.

*All patrons will be expected to display appropriate behavior conducive to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for all patrons.  The library staff reserves the right to ask patrons who do not maintain proper behavior to leave.

Parents and caregivers, not library staff, are responsible for the actions and safety of children visiting the library.

Thank you for your cooperation.
